Elizabeth Xi Bauer Gallery is thrilled to mark its tenth anniversary with the opening of a second gallery space in London’s vibrant Exmouth Market. Expanding from its original home in Deptford, this new location will further the gallery’s mission to foster cutting-edge contemporary art and support both emerging and established artists on a global stage.
Founded in 2015, Elizabeth Xi Bauer began as an innovative online platform accompanied by pop-up exhibitions. In 2021, as the UK was exiting lockdown restrictions, Artistic Director Edward Sheldrick and Directors Callum Welch and Matthew Grochowski took on the challenge to open a permanent space in South-East London.

With its roots in Deptford, a burgeoning creative hub, the gallery has established itself as a dynamic player in the contemporary art scene. In 2021, Elizabeth Xi Bauer opened with the inaugural exhibition, The Garden of Unearthly Delights, which included works by Theodore Ereira-Guyer, Hamish Pearch, and Manuela Ribadeneira, curated by Maria do Carmo M. P. de Pontes. To date, the gallery has curated more than 20 exhibitions in London and collaborated on projects with international institutions, curators, and artists across São Paulo, Amsterdam, Brussels, and Lisbon.
“Our expansion into Exmouth Market represents the next step in our journey to further the gallery’s mission of supporting artists and pushing the boundaries of contemporary art. We will continue to foster exciting collaborations as well as introduce fresh voices across both spaces” – Edward Sheldrick, Artistic Director.

The new Exmouth Market gallery will launch in January 2025 with an exhibition that will showcase the essence of Elizabeth Xi Bauer and its vision for the future. This inaugural exhibition will introduce the gallery’s identity to this central London location, featuring a curated selection of works from both the gallery’s represented artists and those who have previously exhibited with Elizabeth Xi Bauer. This upcoming exhibition aims to provide a glimpse into the gallery’s 2025 programme across both spaces.
The programme will feature a series of duo exhibitions, each show comprising one of the gallery’s represented artists alongside a revered international artist, who will be collaborating with Elizabeth Xi Bauer for the first time. The exhibitions will be curated by the gallery’s curator Maria do Carmo M.P. de Pontes, creating a new dialogue between the exhibiting artists.
“The Gallery works with talented and passionate artists, curators, and writers. We give them the creative freedom to express themselves, experiment, push boundaries, and innovate in a positive and supportive environment” – Callum Welch, Director.

Continuing the exhibition programme at the gallery’s Deptford location, 2025 will begin with a duo exhibition featuring works by Marta Jakobovits and Anderson Borba. Elizabeth Xi Bauer Deptford will also maintain its residency programme, offering national and international artists a creative space connected to the gallery to develop their practice.
“Our residency programme offers artists the opportunity to work in proximity to where their art will later be exhibited, giving them creative freedom to experiment with new materials and ideas,” explains Sheldrick.
